Happy New Year to you!! I hope you're entering 2017 with as much motivation, love, and support as I wish for you. This is going to be a big year, I can feel it!
Over the holidays, I am always reminded of how important it is to shop small. Handmade artists rely on word of mouth to spread their good news, so I've decided to support a different artist each month and post a review here on my blog on the 1st of the month.
For January 2017, it is my absolute pleasure to share with you Sublime Signs Studio (soon to become Sublime Pottery). I had been eyeing one of Amanda's tea mugs from her Stellar collection, and when she produced one with a notch in the lip for the tea bag, I knew I'd found my mug! I purchased right away and have been wow'ed ever since.
First, I'll tell you that I don't expect quick shipping around the holidays. I understand that artists processing times are different with such high demand, and I'm quite patient (while suberbly excited!) to wait for my items to ship. That said, I nearly peed my pants when my mug arrived on Christmas Eve!!
I was first struck by the care she took in packaging her pottery - from the labels on the outside of the box (FRAGILE and This End Up) to the peanuts ON TOP OF the bubble wrap hugging my mug (which was stuffed with peanuts as well), I can tell that this girl treasures her work and does everything she can to ensure a cozy ride from her studio to recipient. (I didn't get a pic of the box in my excitement.)
Then I saw the mug. I'll tell you that the pictures that she posts and the ones that I'll post below don't do this piece justice. There is so much depth to the medium that she works with that you can truly get lost in this mug - you just can't capture it with a camera! Every time I turn it around, I see something that I hadn't noticed before. The teabag notch is the perfect measure - I won't lose my bag, but can fill my mug well. The heft of the mug is solid, but not too heavy that it's uncomfortable to cradle in my hands...it feels sturdy and well made as I'm holding it.
Amanda, thanks so much for sharing your talent. I am a lucky girl to have scooped this up just in time! ❤️
Check back on Febuary 1st to find out which handmade artist I discover this month. Can't wait to share!
Best of 2017 to you.
